Bushcraft branch Camp

Uncategorized  Tagged 1 Comment »

Last week on Friday I went on a camp with the SA branch. We got there at about 9pm and set up the tent, then at about 10pm we went to bed. In the morning I woke up and found that Nick, Sam and Jacob were already awake. An hour later we went to HQ and they hoisted the flag.We found that we had free time first. After that we went to weather mapping and predicting weather . Later at 11:50 we went to the rabbit skinning demo to watch and taste the rabbit. After that we went to the backwoods cooking where we prepared our meal for the night. Next we went to camp gadget constuction. We made a camp table using square and round lashings. Then we went to bush shelter construction. We had find logs and sticks to make the shelter. It was great fun!! Then we walked back to our tent because the activities were over for the day. Then at 4pm we started to build the fire. We needed it to be hot enough to make coals to cook the backwoods meal on them. I started to cut up the wood for the fire (believe me, its hard work for kids). Then at 6pm we put the meals on the coals’, then an hour later we took them off the coals and ate them. When we finished we put the apples on the coals.I left mine a little too long. It was completely burnt to a crisp (literally). After we roasted marshmallows. I ate 16 in a row.At 9pm we went to sleep.

On Sunday morning we woke up at 7:00am by a false siren (as a joke). We got up and cooked breakfast on the trangia. Then we went to our Scout leader’s activity four-wheel driving demo.I thought it was interesting. Next we went to wood carving and wood chopping and I learnt how to use a knife well. After we went to fire lighting without matches, instead we used a flint. We also learnt how to make rope from string. Then we went to water purification. We made simple water filters and then moving on to the more advanced forms of filtering water. Then we went to HQ to lower the flag and end the camp.

What are you doing on the weekend?

See you
